Volleyball Information
Girls’ Volleyball at Mead Middle School begins the week of August 24th for all grades. Below is an overview of the six-week season.
- Practices run from 3:00 to 4:45 after school. Fridays: 3:00-4:00. Please make sure your player has a ride and can be picked up from the school no later than 4:50. Athletes will no longer be supervised after 5:05.
- Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each practice in Infinite Campus. At 3:30 the coaches will submit attendance; if athletes are absent from practice, Infinite Campus will send a text message to parents letting them know. Please contact the office to excuse your child’s absence.
- Cell Phones and Ipads will NOT be allowed at practice. If parents need to contact their child, they may call the front office or email the coaches.
- Please see the MMS Athletics volleyball website for the updated practice schedule.
- The first couple of weeks are geared towards instruction before intramural league play starts and all grades will attend practice everyday.
Overview:
Intramural program with instruction at a higher level than a typical recreational program. Sixth Graders will be placed onto teams consisting of mixed grades and abilities. 6th graders should plan on having intramural games twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Mondays-Wednesdays- Fridays as instructional days. There will be a tournament for intramural teams the last week of the season. ALL PLAYERS RECEIVE EQUAL PLAYING TIME ON INTRAMURAL TEAMS.
7th graders will be placed onto the same mixed grade teams as 6th graders, and will have the same intramural schedule (please see the above paragraph). In addition, a few 7th grade players with more advanced skills and work ethic may have the opportunity to play in one or more “varsity” games against other schools, although first consideration is always given to 8th graders. See below for varsity game information.
8th graders will play in the same intramural league as the 6th and 7th graders (see above paragraphs). Some 8th graders will be chosen to be captains of these intramural teams. In addition to the intramural league, 8th graders will be given first consideration for selection to play “varsity” games against other schools. These games will be held on Mondays beginning the week of August 31st, with a required practice the day before or the Friday before. PLEASE NOTE that every effort will be made to include every 8th grader in at least one varsity game. However, this cannot be guaranteed, and will be dependent on the number of players who participate and attendance, as well as attitude, effort and leadership shown by the players, both in practice and in intramural games. 8th graders are expected to be leaders, and to help players with less experience and skill.
- Absences from practice WILL affect the coaches’ decision on who plays in games. Please send a written note or email if your student is going to miss practice.
- 1 unexcused absence during the week = player is ineligible to play in that week’s varsity game.
- 2 excused practices (for any reason) = player is ineligible to play in that week’s varsity game.
**8th grade travel teams consist of 2 teams; an A team and B team. Athletes will either play a 3:30 or 4:30 game.
