Track Participation Information and Expectations
***Always refer to the MMS Athletics Page for Up-to-date information***
*1. Practice will begin the week of Monday, March 8th for all athletes who are registered.
*2. The $55.00 athletic fee, $15.00 t-shirt fee and all paperwork must be completed before practicing.
*3. Practices will be held Monday through Thursday from 2:50-4:45 with Friday’s practice 3:00-4:00. Rides should be at the school to pick up students by 4:50 Always refer to the practice calendar for updated practice and meet info. All students must wait outside for their rides. Athletes will no longer be supervised after 5:05. We will make attempts to call, however, athletes will be left unsupervised at 5:05 pm and the school building will be closed. Students who need to leave practice early must bring all of their belongings outside with them because they will not be permitted inside the building unsupervised.
*4. P.E. type clothes are used for track practice. Running shoes are needed. Participants are responsible for the warm weather gear which can be loaned to them if needed. Athletes will be required to pay for lost or damaged articles such as sweat tops and bottoms. Athletes will wear the purchased orange t-shirt and participants will need to provide their own black shorts for meets. Remember to bring warm clothes to practice and meets. You can always take off extra clothing. The weather at this time of the year is very unpredictable!
*5. Attendance is important. It may determine whether athletes compete in meets or run on a relay team. All athletes are required to attend practice the day before a meet in order to travel to the track meet the next day. If an athlete must miss a practice, parents will need to call the office. Any athlete with an unexcused absence from the practice before a meet will not be allowed to participate in that track meet. Any athlete that misses the practice before a track meet, excused or unexcused will not be allowed to participate in a relay.
*6. Track meets begin at 3:30. Students are required to warm up and stretch with the team 45 minutes prior to meets. Students will ride a bus to all track meets. However, a parent must sign each athlete out with a coach before taking their athlete. A note or email is required if a student athlete is planning to leave the meet with someone other than their own parent. If an athlete leaves a meet without signing out, they will not be allowed to compete in the following meet or may choose from optional consequences for not signing out from a meet. The entire meet is usually over around 6:30, but some meets may run longer depending on the number of participants.
*7. Dear Mead Middle School Families,
Thank you for your dedication and continued support as we strive to provide the best educational experience for our students. As we prepare for our spring season, we would like to share some updates regarding our intramural track programming.
In our commitment to providing equal opportunities for all middle schools to engage in a diverse offering of co-curricular activities across St. Vrain Valley Schools, we are aligning middle school track with other intramural sports in our district. Similar to our existing intramural sports framework, each middle school will be allocated one bus for transportation to away track meets, accommodating 75 slots per school. Priority for participation in away meets will be given to eighth-grade students, with any remaining spaces opened up to sixth and seventh graders.
We understand the importance of creating opportunities for all grade levels to participate in track meets, and we are pleased to share the following offerings for this season. Each middle school will host a home meet open to all grade levels, and in addition, there will be a district-wide meet for sixth graders and a combined meet for seventh and eighth graders. This ensures that every middle school student has the opportunity to participate in at least two track meets this season. As in previous years, all grade levels are invited to participate in afterschool track practices at their respective middle schools.
Thank you for your continued support and participation in our co-curricular programming. Please reach out to your school’s track coach with any questions. We look forward to a successful season.
