Boys Basketball Information

Boys Basketball at Mead Middle School begins October 5th.  We want YOU to help us continue the great tradition of Boys Bulldogs Hoops!!  Below is an overview of the six-week season.  A more accurate schedule will be posted on the website calendar.

  • Practices run from 3:00 to 4:45 after school.  Please make sure your player has a ride and can be picked  up from the school no later than 4:50.  After 5:05 there will be no supervision.
    • Students must be in attendance at school in order to participate that day or travel for games.
  • The first couple of weeks are geared towards instruction before intramural league play starts.
  • All Grades will start practice on Tuesday, September 30th.  Please see the MMS Boys Basketball Website for a practice and game schedule calendar.

Overview

Intramural program with instruction at a higher level than a typical recreational program. Sixth Graders will be drafted onto a mixed-grade team and play around 8-12 games against other teams from our school. Sixth graders should plan on having games twice per week, with some Fridays as instructional days. There will be a tournament for intramural teams the last two weeks of the season.  ALL PLAYERS RECEIVE EQUAL PLAYING TIME ON INTRAMURAL TEAMS.

7th graders will be drafted onto the same mixed grade teams as 6th graders, and will have the same intramural schedule (please see the above paragraph). In addition, a few 7th grade players with more advanced skills and work ethic may have the opportunity to play in one or more interscholastic games against other schools, although first consideration is always given to 8th graders. See the 8th grade section for interscholastic game information.

8th graders will play in the same intramural league as the 6th and 7th graders (see above paragraphs). Some 8th graders will be chosen to be captains of these intramural teams, and will get to draft their team.  In addition to the intramural league, 8th graders will be given first consideration for selection to play interscholastic games against other schools. 8th graders will be placed on either the A-team or B-team based on their skill level; team placement will be determined by ability/skill level. These games will be held on Mondays beginning October 12th, with a required practice the day before or the Friday before. Players must attend the practice before a game in order to travel. Athletes must attend school the day of practice and games in order to participate in basketball after school.  PLEASE NOTE that every effort will be made to include every 8th grader in at least one interscholastic game.  However, this cannot be guaranteed, and will be dependent on the number of players who participate, as well as attitude, effort and leadership shown by the players, both in practice and in intramural games. 8th graders are expected to be leaders, and to help coach players with less experience and skill.

  • Absences from practice WILL affect the coaches’ decision on who plays in games.  Please send a written note or email if your student is going to miss practice.
  • 1 unexcused absence during the week = player is ineligible to play in that week’s varsity game.
  • 2 excused practices (for any reason) = player is ineligible to play in that week’s varsity game.
