Education Foundation
Tribute to Teachers is just that – A Tribute to honor top teachers from every school in the district. Please nominate teachers who have done/are doing a tremendous job at helping students achieve to the best of their abilities. Everyday, teachers, paras, counselors, administrators, support staff, bus drivers and other district employees are giving their best to build a world class school district with world class education.
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley seeks to honor over 150 teachers with Encore awards and select 4-6 of the very best nominees to receive Spotlight Awards. This year, King Automotive as a Tribute to Teachers sponsor, is providing to one of the Spotlight winners, a new car lease for 12 months and a second new car lease to be shared by the other Spotlight finalists on a monthly basis. King Automotive’s generosity is greatly appreciated and becomes an additional means by which to say thank you to teachers. While we can recognize only a few from each school, we seek to pay tribute to all of your accomplishments on behalf of each student in a St. Vrain Valley School.
The Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley also uses this event to raise funds for the Classroom Grants we award each fall to help teachers be even more creative and innovative in your classrooms. This year we awarded over $48,000 in such grants. We received requests totaling over $170,000. Our goal is to make Tribute to Teachers the best it has ever been and raise enough support so that we can double the number of classroom grants we award next year.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES:
Parent-Teacher conferences are 2-22, 2-23 and 2-25. The link will open up on February 1st. To sign up for conferences please go to the Mead Middle School website and click on “Online Scheduler” in the quick links area of our website. Or click this link.

Conference Details:
3:10 – 7:50 on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is 3:10 -5:40- 10 minute conference time slots throughout the evening.
7th and 8th Grade – schedule with Advisory teacher

Open times will be available for 7th and 8th grade parents to visit with other teachers after they have met with the advisory teacher.
6th Grade – Schedule with Math teacher and Language Arts teacher *Not by team*

Conferences will be 10 mins. in length.
YEARBOOKS will be on sale all 3 nights
of conferences – Feb. 22, 23, & 25 – for $37.
Lost and Found will be donated after conferences. Please come and find what has been lost!
Also, on Wednesday, it is our home Wrestling meet! Please come out and cheer on our Bulldogs!
Mead High Registration Forms:
8th graders attending Mead High School next year need to return their yellow registration form either to Mead High or Mrs. Vaughan by February 29th.
iOS Issue with iPads:
Apple has identified an issue with iPads and iPhones that can completely disable the device, causing it to go into a reboot loop. This is only caused by a user manually adjusting the date and time of their device to a specific date in the past. At this time, the only way to resolve this will be to send it to our vendor as a hardware repair.
Insurance will work as it normally does, due to the fact that manually changing their device’s date and time is not encouraged or needed for anything district related. For a student with no insurance, there will be a charge for this repair.

Spring Testing April 12-22, 2016
All students will be taking the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) tests for English language arts (ELA) and math.
In addition, 8th graders will take the CMAS (Colorado Measure of Academic Success) test for science.
The testing window will be April 12-22, 2016. Attendance is vital during this time. We wanted to let you know early so that appointments and vacations are not scheduled during these days.
We have attached a schedule of when the tests will be administered to students.

-Conferences are next week, Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Friday the 25th. Apparel from stock will be available from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. for purchase. We also have spirit night coming up, See information below!
-Apparel is available for ordering online at www.fishesstreetwear.com. You can find a link to our school in the menu. We also have Mead Middle Trucker Hats and the Fitted Flat Bill Hats available for purchase in the office.
-The next PAC meeting will be on March 14th at 5:45 in the library. Cupcakes will be provided:)

On Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 5:00pm-7:30pm.
Chick-fil-A will donate 15 to 20% of our school’s ticketed sales between 5:00pm-7:30pm to Mead Middle School. When ordering at the front counter or drive thru, tell the cashier that you are here to support the Mead Middle School. Put your receipt in one of the designated baskets labeled Spirit Night at the register, and we will get 15 to 20% of the receipt’s collected that night for our organization. So the more people we bring in to eat, the more money we will generate for our school.
So don’t chicken out…stop by and bring your appetite!

Learn about leadership in a fun, new way! Leadership is a quality that serves students in any capacity. It will help them with their friends, their school work and their team involvement. It is more than running for an office. Join us each month as we explore leadership with movies, games, teamwork and challenges.
NOT ABLE TO GET YOUR KIDS AFTER SCHOOL?
Mead Middle School has an after school ENRICHMENT program called Bulldogs Den that begins at 2:50-6:00 pm in the Cafeteria. We are open Monday-Friday (when school is open). We provide snacks, homework time, activities, games, free-time, and friendships. Bulldogs Den provides a safe place for them to grow and enjoy networking with other students.

Hello Parents,
With the ever increasing presence of technology in our world, it can sometimes be hard to decide how much to allow your child to interact with it, and what types of interactions you approve. Social media is something that children in middle school often want to engage with, and also need guidance about HOW to participate! Much like other relationships, there are social norms and expectations that need to be learned. In addition, the online world is one in which people often behave differently than they would in person, leading to confusion for our tweens and teens about appropriate ways to speak, behave and interact.
I recently came across this article from the NY Times, and thought it gave great advice for parents who are considering letting their children begin to use social media, and also for parents of youth who are already participating in it. It sometimes feels like the easiest thing to do when concerned about something is to restrict access, tighten the reins, and deny permission to do certain things. In reality, there are times we do need to do that to ensure our children’s safety. The other side of this coin is recognizing we have the opportunity to guide our children as they learn how to navigate new challenges with healthy decisions. Social media is a new and constantly changing landscape. While helping our youth learn how to be responsible participants and users of it, we can foster wonderful communication about many things including friendships, communication skills, trust, self image, and many more.
