Final 3rd quarter grades are now posted in Infinite Campus.
4th Quarter Fees have been posted to RevTrak.
Penny War:
Thank you for supporting our Mead Middle School PAC.
Our Penny war was able to raise over $4,600. 10% of that will go to Buck’s Battle.
Yearbooks:
Yearbooks will be arriving in May. Be sure that you have PAID for yours (in person or on Revtrak) before then to ensure that you get a yearbook.

Upcoming Events:
Spring Testing April 12-22, 2016
All students will be taking the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) tests for English language arts (ELA) and math.
In addition, 8th graders will take the CMAS (Colorado Measure of Academic Success) test for science.
The testing window will be April 12-22, 2016. Attendance is vital during this time. We wanted to let you know early so that appointments and vacations are not scheduled during these days.
We have attached a schedule of when the tests will be administered to students.

Bulldog Den Update:
NOT ABLE TO GET YOUR KIDS AFTER SCHOOL?
Mead Middle School has an after school ENRICHMENT program called Bulldogs Den that begins at 2:50-6:00 pm in the Cafeteria. We are open Monday-Friday (when school is open). We provide snacks, homework time, activities, games, free-time, and friendships. Bulldogs Den provides a safe place for them to grow and enjoy networking with other students.
Tennis Club:
With the weather being so nice, we are going to put tennis club on the calendar a little early this year. Beginning March 14th we will meet each Monday and Tuesday through April 26th. We will meet from 2:50-4:20, please have rides available by 4:30.

Hello Parents,
The Power in Words:
How much have you really thought about the power in the words that you use? This is something I frequently discuss with students. When they describe themselves, their experiences, their expectations, their moods, they often don’t recognize the power and influence these words can have on how they navigate their world.
Words I hear often from students when describing their emotional state:
Anxious Panicky Depressed Suicidal Worried Overwhelmed Stressed
Is their choice of words accurate? Sometimes. However, while students certainly can feel this way, what I try to teach them is the power these words can have on their self concept, belief system and how they view their situation. How do these words contribute to their perception of reality? For those who are truly experiencing anxiety or depression, we address next steps to learn how to cope and move with it and through it. For now, let’s focus on vocabulary.
Consider the words “anxious” and “worried”. The simple act of changing the vocabulary we use can change our thoughts and perceptions. By changing our thoughts and perceptions, we can change our experience. How might someone approach a situation differently if we replace the words anxious and worried with words that hold less negative energy? For example, instead of saying “I’m anxious/worried about what is going to happen”, saying “I’m thinking about what is going to happen”, or “I’m curious about what is going to happen” takes on a different feel, and removes the stressful tone of the words anxious and worried, while also altering the perception of the experience!
There is a concept found in psychology and sociology called the self-fulfilling prophecy. What one expects to happen, or tells oneself is happening often becomes the reality. If you roll out of bed telling yourself your day is going to be terrible, odds are it probably will, as you have set the tone and expectation for the day. Keep telling yourself you are anxious or depressed, and you will likely continue to feel that way.
Change our words, change our perceptions and our experiences. How will you practice this language shift with yourself and your child to see the impact?
